With #2.2 in the SPECTR series due out on February 16, I’m taking the time to highlight the first part of the series. I did a spotlight on Series 1 (#1.1 through 1.6), so today I want to review #2.1, which came out last year.

And I’m giving away an e-copy of “Dancer of Death” (SPECTR #2.2) to one lucky winner! Leave a comment on the Series 1 Spotlight post or on this post for your chance to win! (One entry per person, open worldwide, ends 2/14 at 11:59pm EST.)

Caleb has spent the last six months adjusting to life possessed by the vampire spirit Gray. Unfortunately, after the events of Fort Sumter, the other agents of SPECTR view him more as a ticking time bomb than a co-worker.

The one bright spot is Caleb and Gray’s boyfriend, federal exorcist John Starkweather. But John has problems of his own. A supernatural killer is on the loose in Charleston, stealing the hearts of its victims to extend its own unnatural life.

With the help of a rookie agent, John, Caleb, and Gray must find the killer before it strikes again…or before they become the demon’s next victims.

My Review:

“Mocker of Ravens” picks up a few months after the events of #1.6 “Summoner of Storms”, with John, Caleb, and Gray up against a new set of enemies. To top it off, with fear running rampant through SPECTR after the events of “Summoner”, Caleb/Gray are having a rough time at work. So it’s more action, more demons to devour, and another hint of over-arching mystery to tie the series together.

But the cherry on top of the paranormal cake is Zahira Noorzai. She’s the new agent working with John and Caleb/Gray, and she’s an utter delight. Straight-forward, optimistic, and eager to learn, she’s one of the few people who isn’t afraid of Gray.

The plot of “Mocker” follows the same episode-like format of the previous books, but the mythology and world-building are just as fantastic… and the sex between John and Caleb/Gray is literally white hot.

Another fantastic addition to the SPECTR series!

  1. Why is no one commenting?
As you know I’ve ‘bought’ the first one and I’m really excited to read it! Just need to finish a few arcs first. And now I’m even more excited for this series. I really think it might get a spot on my most beloved series list.

    • There’s a weird hesitation in most people to take the extra step and write a comment. Most people just don’t think to take the time to write a review, or to comment on a fan fiction. Which is fine, I’d never ask them to, and I know I’m the same way sometimes; I see giveaways all the time that I think “Nah, I’d like to win but don’t want to put the effort in”.

      • I’m ‘banned’ from most giveaways because a lot of them are US only (I totally understand if it’s a paperback/hardcover because shipping is expensive).
But yeah, commenting can be difficult – a lot of the time I don’t know what to say, because ‘oh interesting’ is a little bit short…
But still… ;D giveaway of a great book…(read the first one today, btw. So much fun!).
