***A spin-off from the Temptation Series***

imageIt’s time to come home, Finn.

It’s been seven years since Daniel Finley left his hometown in Florida for the hustle and bustle of Chicago’s city life.

Since then, he’s worked hard for his position at the prestigious law firm Leighton & Associates, even when it’s caused distance and isolation from his family and friends. But that’s all about to change.

On his thirtieth birthday, he receives the one thing he never dared hope for. Something that was promised to him years earlier—a note. One simple sentence from the man he’s never been able to forget.

Six words will forever change the course of their lives.

REVIEW

Ella really excels at writing erotic romance. But while her M/M series Temptation was a clever combination of sexy and witty, Finley is something else entirely.

Which is not to say that Finley isn’t a great read! I very much enjoyed reading it, and I thought Finley and Brantley were a fantastic couple facing some very real challenges. But I think anyone who goes into this expecting it to be just like the Temptation trilogy will be disappointed, because they’re very different.

I really enjoyed how this story was told with a combination of present-day events and flashbacks. The flashbacks added a different layer, allowing us to see how the characters had grown and changed, but also how similar they were after all these years. And while sometimes it was a bit confusing, having something referenced and having to wait for a flashback to explain it, it was all explained eventually.

Where Ella really shines in her writing is in the dialogue. I enjoy the verbal banter and quips. But with Finley, there was a lot of introspection and sorting through emotions from both characters, and I found those scenes to be clumsily written.

If you’re new to Ella’s writing, you may be a bit surprised by her style. It’s not romantic. Rather, she takes romance elements and a strong, complex relationship, and writes them with erotica elements– especially noticeable in the language she uses during sex scenes, but also in the way everything circles back to sex. But that’s just what you get with an Ella Frank novel!
