Forgive and Forget, by Charlie Cochet
A Dreamspun Desires Novel
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
He’s hot. He’s dangerous. And he can’t remember anything.
As the owner of Apple’n Pies, Joe Applin leads a quiet, uneventful life, content to spend his days serving customers who come from all over to eat his delicious homemade pies. Along with his motley crew—Bea, Elsie, and Donnie—Joe couldn’t be happier in his little kingdom of baked goods and java.
Experience has taught Joe that love is overrated—and at times dangerous. He has no intention of repeating past mistakes. But then he meets a mysterious, handsome man with amnesia, and Joe can’t deny something sweet is in the works. He isn’t one to take risks, not with his heart and certainly not with his life, but the more time he spends with the man he knows as Tom, the closer he is to losing both.
Love at First Sight
(There are lots of other tropes, but I can’t tell you without spoilers!)
This is book is part of Dreamspinner Press’ ‘Dreamspun Desires’ series, which feature “contemporary category romance novels, complete with your favorite heartwarming heroes, cracktastic clichés, and terrific tropes.”
So with that in mind, this is going to be a very unusual review. Because this book was puposefully written to be as cheesy and cliché as possible, I have to shift my mindset a bit in order to write a review!
I really enjoy Charlie’s writing style, which is lighthearted and humorous. Her characters are always a silly and fun, but also extremely competent, and that definitely carries over here.
Normally I’m not a big fan of insta-love and of attraction based solely on apperance, but… well, clichés are popular for a reason, and I definitely had some guilty pleasure going on here! That said, it was a bit too much for me at times. I know that’s the point, so I feel bad saying that, but it was… just so over the top sometimes.
This is a great novel if you’re looking for a fun escape book, one that you don’t have to take too seriously. As you can see from the tropes list above, it has a lot packed in one small package! But Charlie can definitely write, so you know it’s going to be enjoyable.
Charlie is best known for writing the THIRDS series, which feature M/M pairings and shifters in modern-day New York City. You can find out more about the series at the THIRDS HQ website!
Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters, to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance, too!
I received an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.
