erickson-hassell-fast-connectionAfter a decade of serving in the Army, everyone still expects me to be Dominic ‘Nicky’ Costigan–the skirt-chasing player. They don’t know I’ve been spending my days trying to figure out my post-military life. Including how to pick up guys.

When I meet Luke on a hookup app, he makes it clear it’s for one-night only. That’s fine with me, because I’m down to see what this silver fox can do. But after I arrive at his doorstep, it doesn’t take long to realize we have serious chemistry, and we end up meeting again.

He’s got more walls around his heart than a military base, but I think he’s as addicted to me as I am to him. He can’t resist me for long. I mean, who can? Except Luke’s rules exist for a reason, and when I test his limits, things get complicated. Maybe too complicated.

Even after reading it twice, taking furious notes, recording my feelings, highlighting my favorite parts, I still don’t have the words that will express exactly where I’m at. I’ll try to explain all the feelings I had (still have) about this amazing book.

I went on an emotional roller coaster while reading Fast Connection. The ups and downs had an impact. A major impact. The dedication alone is a strong indication of what these two men go through. When you’re on a path to a “new normal”, it’s never easy.

The first feelings I had were of the direct results from Dominic’s insecurities and vulnerabilities. I’m talking instant heart drop. You know that feeling, right? That one where you’re reading and then all of a sudden the MC lets a little bit of himself out and you feel it deep in your bones, the disappointment he’d just had. But you also feel his strength and his huge heart. I instantly learned that Dominic is thoughtful, caring, kind, and has a deep sense of family.

Another feeling I had was this massive happiness. There is a point in the book where the banter really starts to shine, and my notes just said BANTER BANTER BANTER BANTER!!!!!  I loved the joking, the seriousness, the filthy and sexy messages. I loved all of it. During this banter, when more signs of Dominic’s insecurities show through– seemingly joking when you know he’s hurting somewhere deep in his heart– this is where I found my love for Luke.

Luke is very perceptive and he really sees Dominic. He knows where Dominic is coming from, has experienced some of what he’s going through, and has this uncanny ability to read a situation, offer great advice, and understanding. Through the push and pull of their relationship, he says the right things (when he’s not screwing up royally), listens well, and it’s shown so freaking well. The problem is, Luke is having troubles with where his new normal is taking him. Even while I loved Luke from page one, at times I really wanted to throttle him.

I have extra love and feels for the kids in this book. If anyone can write teenagers, it’s Erickson and Hassell. High fives for Garrett and Kai appearances, as well as Steph. All the love for George who is an amazing friend. All the feels for Nadia and Luke’s relationship as divorced parents and friends, and a deep appreciation for Duffy Costigan. That man was difficult to read, so I can’t imagine how he was to write.  The extra care and formulation of these characters make this book so well-rounded.

Throughout the entire book, all the times I wanted to throw up when my heart sank into my stomach, when I smiled and cried, Erickson and Hassell tell a story with so much meaning and heart. This is a story filled with passion, two families with issues and needs, troubles and challenges. A story so deep in reality and it touched me deeply because finding a new normal is a reality everyone has to go through at some point in their lives. Sometimes multiple times. It can be easy, but more often than not, it can be brutal, challenging, and really difficult without a lot of love and support. I’ve recently gone through my own new normal. I have friends that are going through theirs. In Fast Connection, a new normal is something both Dominic and Luke are finding together, and reading their journey to get there is one I can not recommend enough. I had very high expectations for this book, and they were not only met, but blown out of the water.

*Disclaimer… this book may also give you cravings for peanut butter sandwiches. I’d have one right now, but we don’t have any bread.

megan14Megan Erickson is a USA Today bestselling author of romance that sizzles. Her books have a touch of nerd, a dash of humor, and always have a happily ever after. A former journalist, she switched to fiction when she decided she likes writing her own endings better.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her very own nerdy husband and two kids. Although rather fun-sized, she’s been told she has a full-sized personality. When Megan isn’t writing, she’s either lounging with her two cats named after John Hughes characters or… thinking about writing.

SH imageSantino was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into a guy who spends his days and nights writing romance with an edge.

Santino is a dedicated gamer, a former fanfic writer, an ASoIaF mega nerd, a Grindr enthusiast, but most of all he is a writer of queer fiction that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.
