DMac Presents: Sports Sunday

We are starting an exciting new feature at Just Love called Sports Sundays. El offered me the opportunity to do this series because I am heavily into sports and I also love sports romances. I’ll read any kind of sports romances, but my personal favorites are ones that involve baseball or hockey.

My goal is to provide people who already love sports romances a source to get their fix, but also to try to get some newbies in on the fun. Maybe you’re intimidated because you don’t know about sports and you don’t want to read something unfamiliar. Maybe you’ve been putting it off for some other reason. Come join the fun!

I have a few exciting posts planned for the next few months including interviews with some of my favorite sports authors! Another fun thing that I’ll be doing is adding a basic introduction to the sport to give you guys some background. Please let me know if you have any recs or requests for book reviews that you’d like to see me tackle (pun intended!).

This post is a bit of a tease so I’m going to leave you with a list of the four and five-star reviews of books here on the site plus a couple of my personal favorites. Just a taste to get you started.

Hockey

The Scoring Chances Series, by Avon Gale

Save of the Game
Power Play
Empty Net

The Him Series, by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Him
Us

Baseball

Out in the Field, by Kate McMurray

Australian Rules Football

Ongoing Reformation of Micah Johnson, by Sean Kennedy

This hasn’t been reviewed on the site, but the Tigers and Devils series (also by Sean Kennedy) is one of my all time favorite sports series. Kennedy writes about a character coming out in the Australian Football league, but his focus is on the relationships and character development in the books. It is a very fulfilling series even if you don’t like sports.

Fencing

Broken Blades, by L.A. Witt and Aleksandr Voinov
(See also our interview with the authors!)

What are some of your favorite Sports Romances?

  1. I have so many favorites in this niche genre! I love the Game On series by Kristen Callihan, Off Campus by Elle Kennedy, Kulti by Mariana Zapata, Rusk University series by Cora Carmack, the Gridiron series by Jen Frederick, and the rugby series by L. H. Cosway and Penny Reid – and the Gale and & Bowen/Kennedy series you mentioned above.

This is a great idea – I look forward to reading more posts!

    • I’ll check out these books! Thank you!

I was talking to El and we both agreed that Sports Romances don’t get the attention they deserve. Especially since a lot of romance readers are sports lovers or just love to read the genre.

I hope that you’ll enjoy it!

  2. Jaci Burton has a fabulous MF sports series. There’s a wide variety of sports in the books too so it’s not all about one sport over and over again. I truly enjoyed them when I read them a few tears ago and it looks like the series is still going.
