summary

just-driveFor Sean Wright, driving a cab in the tiny Navy town of Anchor Point isn’t an exciting job . . . until he picks up just-dumped Paul Richards. A drive turns into a walk on the pier, which turns into the hottest hookup Sean’s had in ages.

After a long overdue breakup, Paul can’t believe his luck. Of all the drivers, he’s picked up by the gorgeous, gay, and very willing Sean. Younger guys aren’t usually his thing, but Paul can’t resist.

One taste and neither man can get enough . . . right up until they realize that Paul is Sean’s father’s commanding officer and the last man Sean should be involved with.

With two careers on the line, their only option is to back off. It’s not easy, though; the sex and the emotional connection are exactly what both men have been craving for a long time. But Paul has devoted twenty-four years to his career and his dream of making admiral. If he’s caught with Sean, that’s all over. He has to choose—stay the course, or trade it all for the man who drove off with his heart.

REVIEW

Starting from page one I was happy… First of all, this is a military story from L.A. Witt. Given that, I already know I’m starting off in a good place. This is because Lori just knows military family. The blurb tells you all you need to know about the story. What it also gives you is just a hint to the struggle these two men go through to find their HEA. The struggle is real, and I do love an honest, hard fought love story.

The story has a pretty quick pace, while also feeling a little languid when it needed to. Sean and Paul go through the ringer, and they took me along with them. At first, their pretty substantial age gap made me a bit uneasy, but that was quickly quelled due to the connection they have, the maturity of Sean, and that sweet passion they share between the sheets when they’re not having sex. I mean yea, their sex is hot. Super duper hot. But what I loved most were the times when they finally let down some walls and really started to communicate, to talk, and find the connection they think they have is real and could be solid, if not for those pesky rules that come with living a military life. I need that kind of honest communication in MCs. I need to believe it, and I believed it here.

I enjoyed this read a lot. I did, however, want more. I have a short list of things I’d have like to see more of, or things that would have been nice to delve into more. Mostly, I wanted to know more about Paul and Sean individually. I feel like I know a lot about them as a couple, but individually I feel a little lacking in knowledge. But despite all that, every time they had to walk away from each other, the deep feeling of loss they felt was felt by me. That’s what I want in a story. I want to feel it deep in my heart and with Just Drive, I did.

more-from-author

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut . . .
