summary

Charles Hunter’s team is on a mission to extract an unidentified ATF agent from an undercover job gone wrong. All they’ve got to go on is the rendezvous location—until Charles recognizes the ex he hasn’t seen in years. Their “simple rescue mission” is about to get a lot more complicated.

For Ángel Medina, adjusting to life after his cartel nightmare is hard enough without confronting memories of a failed relationship. All he wants is a fresh start. But when a violent stalker lashes out from the shadows, Ángel realizes his nightmare is far from over.

As the stalker’s obsession escalates and bodies start dropping, Charles and Ángel are thrown together in a desperate search for the culprit. Tempers flare and old passions reignite, drawing them back into the same turbulent relationship that once ended in disaster.

But the stalker isn’t letting go—and the next strike might hit straight through the heart.

review-by-El
I’ve been a fan of Cordelia Kingsbridge for years and years. Her online free novels Close Protection and Control are regular re-reads, though they’re no longer available to read. But when I saw that she was publishing with Riptide… well, I freaked. A lot.

Can’t Hide From Me is pure, classic Cordelia Kingsbridge. It’s action-packed, it’s sexy as hell, and it’s absolutely riveting from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down. In fact, I’ve now read it about half a dozen times, because it’s just that damn good.

On the surface, CHFM seems a bit shallow: you have tall, dark, and handsome Charles—the strong and silent type who follows the rules and hides his bisexuality. And you have Angel, who is sexy and wild, a rule-breaker, openly gay and extremely comfortable in his own skin. They are not a match made in heaven, except in the bedroom.

“Fuck, all right, Charles, I get it,” Angel said, panting. “You’re great at foreplay. Congratulations, okay? I’ll get you a trophy. Would you please put your dick in me now?”

Their relationship is fueled by a fiery sexual attraction, to the point where they can’t keep their hands off one another. And hot damn does Cordelia write some smokin’ erotic scenes. Charles and Angel’s chemistry in the bedroom is definitely going to make you want to grab a cup of ice water.

But beneath the surface, there are two fragile men who are both desperate for similar things: trust, respect, safety, and support. They’re both damaged in a way; their first attempt at a relationship a few years prior ended in disaster, and neither man has come to terms with that. Charles struggles with the way people perceive him, and Angel is slowly adapting to life after a two-year undercover assignment. Plus, there’s that pesky problem of someone stalking, harassing, and eventually trying to kill them.

It’s the tiny, heart-breaking moments between Charles and Angel that really took this book to another level for me.

“Why are you so eager to think of me as a victim?”

This book is captivating. It’s intense, a high-octane crime thriller mixed with passion and mystery. And it’s also an exploration of two men who are attempting to reconcile their mutual attraction with their very obvious differences.

Cordelia Kingsbridge has been a trusted author since the moment I discovered her years and years ago, and Can’t Hide From Me is another absolutely brilliant novel in her collection. Highly highly HIGHLY recommended!

(On a personal note, Cordelia just announced a new series with Riptide, and I’m pretty sure they could hear my shouts of joy on the moon omg!)

more-from-author

Cordelia Kingsbridge has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh, but quickly discovered that direct practice in the field was not for her. Having written novels as a hobby throughout graduate school, she decided to turn her focus to writing as a full-time career. Now she explores her fascination with human behavior, motivation, and psychopathology through fiction. Her weaknesses include opposites-attract pairings and snarky banter.

Away from her desk, Cordelia is a fitness fanatic, and can be found strength training, cycling, and practicing Krav Maga. She lives in South Florida but spends most of her time indoors with the air conditioning on full blast!
