Daniel Brown is a man of routine. You might even call him a control freak. So when the new Director of Marketing, Ryan Cole, starts shaking up Daniel’s routine, Daniel doesn’t know how to react. He finds Ryan intriguing, infuriating and oh so attractive, but he doesn’t mix business with pleasure. As their games start to grow kinkier, dare Daniel give in to his desire to let Ryan top him?
I was really looking forward to reading this one seeing as the premise indicated it had two elements I really love in romance and/or erotica: a workplace setting and a power dynamic. I’ve read other books with a similar premise and it’s been done to great effect, so I was hoping for very good things here.
Delayed Gratification starts off very promising, with the introduction of Daniel. I really love seeing buttoned-up, control freaks being reduced to quivering piles of want and need in someone’s capable hands, and if there’s anyone who needs to be taken apart, it’s Daniel. He’s constantly measuring his steps, his time – his entire life – in order to achieve maximum effectiveness. No deviations to his schedule are allowed.
So, it’s somewhat amusing to see him thrown out of sync by a donut. Or rather, donuts.
New guy, Ryan, recognizes Daniel’s need for control and perhaps even his need to relinquish it once in a while. Testing someone’s limits through anonymous donut deliveries is a method I’m unfamiliar with, but it seems to work for Ryan as he eventually convinces Daniel to make after work plans for dinner at Ryan’s house.
Here is where I was hoping the ‘gratification’ portion of this story would take place. What followed was kinda…boring. There is some power play, but very little of it and what does happen is very minor. At a total length of 43 pages, I wasn’t expecting reams of action but *something* interesting would have been welcome. Sadly, that was not the case.
Unfortunately, I found this book was mostly delay with very little gratification. But if you like your BDSM stories on the lighter side, both in length and in content, you may very well enjoy this more than I did.
Tamryn studied English and Creative Writing in school but has been writing since she could first hold a pencil. Recently, she’s turned her focus towards writing erotica. She enjoys writing stories where sex comes first, then feelings, because doing things out of order can be fun.
Tamryn has spent the past few months writing the Daniel and Ryan series with a lovely view of mountains out her window, and she’s now searching for a new mountain range to serve as her backdrop as she begins her next project.
