Miro Jones is living the life: he’s got his exciting, fulfilling job as a US deputy marshal, his gorgeous Greystone in suburban Chicago, his beloved adopted family, and most importantly, the man who captured his heart, Ian Doyle. Problem is, Ian isn’t just his partner at work—Ian’s a soldier through and through. That commitment takes him away from Miro, unexpectedly and often, and it’s casting a shadow over what could be everything Miro could ever dream of.
Work isn’t the same without Ian. Home isn’t the same, either, and Miro’s having to face his fears alone… how to keep it together at the office, how to survive looming threats from the past, and worst of all, how to keep living without Ian’s rock-solid presence at his side. His life is tied up in knots, but what if unknotting them requires something more permanent? What would that mean for him and Ian? Miro’s stuck between two bad choices, and sometimes the only way to get out of the knot is to hold tight to your lifeline and pull.
I may be a bit of a Marshals addict. Okay, no… I really am. There’s no “may be” about it. I’m a little bit addicted to most Mary Calmes books, but this series has taken me by the heart and won’t let go. I fell in love with Miro, Ian, and Chickie Baby a long time ago, but over the last three books, I’ve also fallen in love with all the rest of the supporting cast. Collectively, they are what made this series one of my favorite comfort reads. Tristan James is who made this series become one of my comfort listens.
It’s not a secret that I’ve listened to the series multiple times. Shoot, before book three was finally released in audio, I probably listened to books one and two every other day for 3 weeks. (my girlfriends think I’m crazy) I just love the story of Miro and Ian so much! These are two incredibly wonderful men who love fiercely, are honestly good guys who are committed not only to each other, but to their jobs and the friendships they have with their teammates. The passion they have on the page is magnified in the audio.
From moments when Miro tries to convey his appreciation, and is rewarded with a poop emoji… (I laughed so hard) Miro being ruthless in defense of Ian… Ian surprising Miro with words and emotion he’d never thought to hear and feel… The heartache and worry over Chickie Baby, best dog in the history of dogs… The beautifully passionate moments when they’re intimate and expressing so much love it’s tangible… All of these moments are brought to life through James’ voice.
I’ll never tire of it. I’ve laughed, cried, shouted, cheered. I’ve had all the feelings possible and then some. I could never recommend this series more. If you add in the audio it takes the story to a whole other level. Every time I listen to it, I gain a greater appreciation not only for the story, but for the narration. And if I keep going, I’m just going to blather on and on about how Tristan James is my favorite narrator and can probably do no wrong, and well… yea. I might be a bit of a fangirl. I make no apologies for that! I only encourage you to take a leap and join in the fun.
