THIRDS: Book Eight

In a matter of days, Dex has been kidnapped, tortured, killed, revived, become half Therian, offered the chance to become a spy, and accepted a proposal to marry his jaguar Therian boyfriend, Sloane Brodie. It’s been a lot to take in, and although Dex is still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened, he knows he has to move forward.

After the events of Smoke & Mirrors, Dex and Sloane find themselves in one of the most frightening situations of all: revealing the truth to their Destructive Delta family. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same, and it’s up to Dex to prove that in the face of change, the one thing that will always remain the same is family.

review-by-El

I like to think that I’m a pretty dedicated THIRDS Nerd, so I was more excited than a felid Therian with a box when I saw that a new book was out. After the way Smoke & Mirrors ended, I desperately needed to see what was going to happen next to Dex, Sloane, and their team.

This book… was not what I was expecting.

To call this Book #8 seems incorrect, as it really should be #7.5; it’s an interlude between books. There’s no real plot, just filler and a vague set-up for more-to-come. Fans of the series will be pleased to see that this novella is loaded with humor and sex, as you’d expect from a THIRDS book.

Sloane sent Dex a quick text just to make sure he was all right, and seconds later he got a happy face emoji, a heart, the word “later” and two hand emoji’s that Sloane was fairly certain hadn’t been designed to be used in that context.

For the most part, I struggled to get through this book, even though it was fairly short. It wasn’t that it was poorly written, but it was just not keeping my attention the way a THIRDS book normally does. I kept waiting for the mystery, for the action, for some new evolution of Dex and Sloane’s relationship. Instead, it felt like the same old.

But it did have some interesting hints at what’s coming ahead for Destructive Delta. I won’t go into that much, but I would say that big fans of the series will appreciate the hints that Charlie drops.

In the end, this one is not going to go down as one of my favorites in the series… but it’s an adequate filler until the next arc begins.

more-from-author

Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters, to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance, too!
