I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Blurb:
Dr. Travis Nelson has a passion for ink but keeps his many tattoos covered by long sleeves and trousers. He’s aware that as a pediatrician he’ll be judged not only by the other physicians in his practice, but also by the parents of his young patients.
When Sam Madison takes his young nephew, Levi, to be seen for an ear infection, he’s immediately attracted to Travis and the feeling is mutual. But Sam’s sister Melanie is going through a rough time and caring for Levi, and covering her obligations, keeps Sam occupied. He feels like he’s in no position to start a relationship.
Travis sees things differently, though he’s unable to truly understand the deep bond and connection Sam shares with his twin. As Melanie’s life goes from bad to worse, Sam is forced to make difficult decisions. Is protecting Levi enough of a reason for the two men to stay together, or will fighting for the child ultimately tear them apart?
My Review:
I have a thing for books with tattooed characters. A character with full body tattoos, that he keeps hidden away to appear “respectable” during the day? YES PLEASE!
Unfortunately, the ridiculously hot body art of Dr. Travis Nelson was not enough to get me to finish this book.
I really like the plot, as much of it as I got through, but I felt like the writing was inconsistent and stuttering. But what made me stop reading was Travis and Sam’s relationship. Especially the sex.
This is probably a style preference, to be honest. I don’t know that other people would struggle with reading the book as much as I did. But I just kept rolling my eyes at the word choice, and the completely un-sexy language.
“Right this way, stud. I think a double sixty-nine would be the perfect way to get the ball rolling, so to speak. I want to eat you up, too.”
I’m not sure what a “double sixty-nine” is, but it sounds complicated.
“Uh-uh,” Travis replied, not wanting to release the savory shaft.
Also, don’t call your sex partner “buddy”. And nibbling on something that’s oozing? Um…
So yeah, just not for me.

I’m sorry, but the “dirty talk” for a lack of a better word made me laugh. Also.. double sixty-nine… two people for one, so you need four to do a double one? Or what? I’m confused.

I googled the term, just to make sure it was a sex thing that I was unfamiliar with, but… yeah, no.
Unfortunate, because the plot and characters definitely made me desperately want to enjoy it!

It’s always sad if the book’s idea is a really good one, but the realization isn’t.
